This book deals with everyday workplace issues such as absence, illness, legal obligations of employers and how to do the right thing at the right time for your workers.  If you have  access to your own occupational health service then this book will explain how best to use it or even make it better by explaining what you need to do to get the best results possible.

If you don’t have an occupational health service then this book will be a godsend with links to comprehensive, easily understood information.

Part One

Is a list of the most “Frequently Asked Questions”; such as, what can you do if you don’t believe your employee is sick? And the answer to that and other tricky questions.

This book a reference manual, dip into the relevant section when you have a health issue in your workplace and you want to know the right way to go about sorting it out and the legal implications for you and the workplace.

I’ve kept things as  simple; there is a standard format for each question, which is:

  • A short introduction
  • How an occupational health service could help
  • The impact of the health issue on your business
  • The impact on your workers
  • If there is any law you need to know on the subject
  • Where to go for further help and support
  • Links to my work for video’s, blogs, articles or resources I have produced, such as templates, flowcharts etc.

Each question in is self-contained, so you don’t have to keep skipping from question to question.

Wherever possible I’ve used free resource links, such What is Health Surveillance? – guidance from the Health and Safety Executive, however, there are some publications which you may want to buy and I’ve included these where they are particularly helpful.

I’ve also used my website Working Well Solutions as it has loads of free resources for dealing with common health issues at works, plus free templates and policies which you can adopt for your own use such as the First Aid policy and risk assessment documents and guidance, and a Manager’s Guide to Stress Risk Assessment.
